You’ll complete an independent thesis project in your second semester, guided by a faculty mentor and an optional external advisor. You’ll learn how to leverage architectural design and form to impact social justice, ecological vitality, and economic resilience within communities. You’ll advance novel strategies of research, design, and scholarship to model new forms of practice and develop innovative solutions to urban challenges. Our high-profile, dedicated faculty believe that architecture and interior design are critical cultural practices. They research and write about a range of topics and experiment with alternative materials and processes. Their primary pedagogical tools—hands-on lab work and research—guide students throughout studio and seminar investigations, from experiments in collective living to the construction of ecologically resilient structures.

Our role in the lawn and garden sector of manufacturing focuses primarily on aiding in the production of devices utilized for residential lawn care and landscaping. Clients in the business of landscaping have collaborated with ADC to design and produce gadgets which allow professionals and enthusiasts alike the power to transform their yards with ease. You’ll forge lifelong connections with intellectuals, researchers, and practitioners who work across multiple disciplines. The MAAD History/Theory/Experiments concentration offers an intense year of advanced study in architectural and urban history, theory, and criticism, culminating in an independent research project. You’ll explore politically engaged forms of spatial activism, historical research methods, architectural writing, and more. During your first semester, you’ll take a required course in architectural theory, advanced seminars in research and interpretation, along with an open elective.
ADC has worked in tandem to assist in the restoration of historic vehicles back to the day they first rolled off the line. ADC assists in the production of aftermarket solutions to adapt the historic to the new. ADC has the capability to quickly respond to a wide range of client requests and requirements. From project management and engineering services to the research and design of new products, ADC has you covered, whether your project is big or small. Each MAAD concentration is connected to a unique research and project-based platform.
Each semester, you’ll take one advanced studio, two topic electives in your chosen concentration, and one open elective, which can be any course within the main Architecture division or across the college. Take open electives in visual critical studies, interaction design, interior design, sculpture, and other disciplines. MAAD-HTX students take two additional electives each semester in place of an Advanced Studio. The current North Hollywood Design Center will continue to be utilized for advanced design operations as work on the new facility is completed through the second half of 2022. The additional space enables GM to greatly expand its breadth of output, leveraging the new location to recruit top regional talent in disciplines of aerospace engineering, defense, automotive design, software development and advanced technology. Cindy at Advanced Concepts did great work remodeling our master bath and then our kitchen. She was full of great ideas to make spaces more functional and easier to work in. The owner, Cindy Atchley remodeled both our Master Bath and Guest Bathroom as well.
The new Advanced Design Studio is a 6,500-square-foot, futuristic and creative workspace focused on the theme of mobility. It includes a conference room fashioned from a shipping container, and a louvered projection wall showcasing both new and classic Honda product designs and technology. The studio is equipped with the latest computer-aided design tools allowing designers to realize their ideas rapidly in virtual and physical space. Full-size models and prototypes are created through collaboration with the company's Torrance-based operations.
She did a major redesign of the MBR to enlarge our shower, provide for handicap accessibility and creative use of cabinetry to increase storage. Her contractors are top notch - had a window removed and dry wall/stucco repair was totally seamless. We remodeled our kitchen from the walls up with Cindy providing the overall project management and subcontractor selection and supervision. Cindy was excellent in making recommendations while at the same time understanding our personal preferences. The project was finished on schedule, at the estimated cost, and the results were outstanding! The Master of Advanced Architectural Design is a one-year, two-semester post-professional degree program.
